This article talks about how to set goals that you will actually accomplish. Visionary Goal Setting is the creative process of developing and accomplishing goals that add quality to both your life and the greater world and create enough drive and passion to inspire the goal setter to overcome obstacles and challenges.
Here’s how visionary goal setting works:
- Have a Dream: A Reason for getting up every morning. Your purpose needs to be both self-fulfilling and beneficial to society. For example, your dream may be to save $50,000 per year for the next 5 years, so that you can retire at the age of 55 and volunteer your time to building homes for the poor with Habitat for Humanity so that you can share your blessings with other people and leave a legacy of hope and compassion to future generations. Your dream might also be to lower your expenses to less than $2,ooo per month so that you can work 20 hours per week less at your job and spend 15 hours per week volunteering at a local homeless shelter.
- Write Down Your Goals: This is critical to success! To get started, just write down the 1st 10 things that come to mind, then select the ones that are good and refine them. After refining them as much as possible, ask people you trust to look at your goals and help you further refine them to match your strengths and skills as much as possible
- Find a Mentor: Perhaps a father, neighbor you admire, pastor, boss, friend, or older sibling. The most important thing is to pick a mentor you trust and can be completely honest with. A mentor can greatly help you stay accountable to your goals and help your work through periods of low motivation, self-doubt, and challenges.
- Act: Action is the key to success. Many people write down goals and do not follow through. Most likely, you have also written goals that you did not follow through on. Dare to learn from the past, and commit yourself to succeeding in spite of ll of the failures and setbacks that you have experienced in your past. I am confident that you can overcome any challenges in your way if you choose to believe in yourself and the goals you have set.
